Different directions for future exploration :
1) Resurrection of old tensions. Renewing of power relations through this new tool. Transformation of social links. Conflict with settled dominant culture and creation of counter-cultures.
- - thanks to Wikipedia (available in more than 300 languages), rehabilitation/conservation of "cultural commons" ( cultural repositories), organised around shared LANGUAGES, whatever the actual geographical and political boundaries ...
(+ tension diaspora/nationalism)
- - Chaos computer club.. in Maroco, hacked by german proud hacker! Neo-colonialism
+ problematics for AIW ... not to reproduce elitism scheme in education.
2) New cultural feature: on a technical point of view.
- technics & skill as discrimination - elite vs folk-computing
3) Community; relation between real and virtual community.. How does a community signal its existence? Sociology of real community and virtual community. + virtual community: two categories; closed community vs largest possible community. (catholism vs jew..) non exclusive possibilities! (you change your identity depending on your surfing context?) how to study schyzophrenic behaviors?
4) New cultural facet born through internet: ex. numerical art..
5) Expertise problematic. Free and easy tool for publishing ideas.. (opposed to old school publishing) + generic aspect of ideas! Ready to invade the world ... (geeks are more susceptible) + place of teaching, when everything's available online.. Access to information will transform pedagogy and epistemology... For everybody? see point 1. Optimization of nowadays tool... More exploration in pedagogy... ie more personalized education: forming self-learning student.
6) Participation gap.. (opposed to 5)). People are excluded from new communication device.
7) Gender studies... Add a chapter about it in phD thesis program ?... contact to be taken with Institut Emilie du Chatelet ( "Gender Studies Institute" created in Paris in 2006....)
8) Cultural objects. Software as cultural objects (shared, ...). These objects organize relations between their users (mac/pc) and even disposition of their thoughts ( "ppt way of thinking"). And reciprocally .. example: goal oriented description of object and content oriented descripiton... male vs female behaviour
9) On the one hand: Internet language... elitism of geeks. Specification of geek culture (fake name, proxy ...) defined by non-socialization. Only recognized by other members of the community. On the other hand, come back into folk (ex Matrix). 'le geek c'est chic'. question: --> social motivation dynamic in hacker community? Geek community as an exclusive community is not that original (jews..).. BUT one of the object they are identifiying through is Internet! So they are major motors in Internet evolution.
10) Digitalization of the world... Easy to retrieve social informations vs subjectivism (contradictions in different sets of data are more frequent). Social quantitative sciences. + Challenge: you NEED a geek to retrieve information... biais! ex: blogosphere ... Cooking and sewing are ignored in famous ranking website.
11) semiology of internet culture. conformism vs criticism tension... mimetism very present.. Irony so present on Internet, why? Acclamation and dénigrement. Extreme judgment
